Philosophy: It is the
philosophy of the club directors that players can
be taught to compete in a healthy, productive
environment as young as 12 years old. In order to
make each player, as well as each team,
competitive, girls must be taught proper skill
development through a curriculum that is consistent
throughout the age groups from 8s through 18s. By
doing this, we hope to maximize the potential of
each athlete and reduce the amount of time spent
breaking bad habits and learning completely new
ways of performing skills each year. In order to
accomplish this consistency, master coaches will be
employed to plan and oversee every practice for
each age group. In order to assist each coach, the
curriculum along with drills will be provided in a
binder at the beginning of the club season.
Age Groups: 8, 10, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18; teams will be grouped for practice as follows: 8s & 10s; 12s & 13s; 14s and 15s; 16s, 17s, & 18s in order to keep girls of the same ability and maturity level together so there is not a huge gap between age groups that practice together.
Each age group will consist of at least 2 teams of 9 players each. By limiting the number of players to 9, we hope to maximize playing time for each player. One team will be considered the “travel” team and the other team will be the “non-travel” team. Each team will be provided with a “menu” of tournaments from which to choose. The “travel” team will attend at least 2 national qualifiers while the “non-travel” team will attend local tournaments as well as the Houston Cross Court Classic.
